Showered with Love

In honor of Baby B, my sister-in-law, Katherine hosted an absolutely perfect shower this weekend. It was so wonderful to be surrounded by such amazing women to love on me and Baby B all day. We were so blessed to have both grandmas, great grandma, great-great aunt and so many cousins and friends with us. We received such thoughtful and generous gifts and the stories and advice were absolutely priceless. Katherine did an amazing job with the shower.. everything was just wonderful.. from the adorable decorations to delicious food to the fun "pool" to the yummy candy buffet, it just couldn't have been any better!
Here are lots of pictures of the fantastic shower...

Nursery Inspiration.. Primarily Fun Palette!

The nursery is starting to come together and I am so excited! Back in November when we found out we were expecting, I of course started scouring the web for inspiration for the nursery. Once again, thank goodness for Pinterest and this deserves a blog post all to itself, but I seriously do not know what I would do without it now. Let's just say, Pinterest has been there for me.. with the wedding, house planning, decorating and now nursery! And, not to mention the hundreds of pins about what baby items you can't live without and what is a waste of money, how to get a baby to sleep, etc, etc, etc..

Anyway, back to the nursery.. so, when we started looking for nursery ideas I knew that I wanted to be surprised if the baby was a boy or girl, so a gender neutral nursery would be our plan. Most of the ideas I found were VERY neutral (aka B-O-R-I-N-G), but I finally found a few ideas that were just the inspiration I needed like these:
primary colors baby roomPrimarily Yours - We love it when nothing matches but everything goes, like in this room, which mixes primary colors in a variety of shades and patterns.colorful nursery
COLOR! Love the primary color palette.. it's bright and bold, but also very appropriate for a little sweet baby!

And, then I found the real inspiration.. antique toys!

vintage toys  Antique dresser - changing table. LOVE the above organization for diapers and stuff. cute toy display
James and I both have some great toys and books from when we were little (and even when our parents were kids) and knew that incorporating vintage toys, books and family photos along with the bright colors, would be perfect.

Once we had decided on the color palette and theme, I couldn't find any bedding that I just loved and anything that I even liked was so expensive. I knew I could make the crib skirt and accents, so with the help of James' mom, Carol, we set out on an adventure one Saturday to find fabric.

And, we found the perfect fabrics!

Uzbek Jewel $16.98/yd aristicfabrics.com  Sierra Washed- Cool Blue $26.99 Calico Corners

I just love the animals and bright colors! And, since I have a small obsession with monkeys, it's perfect! :)

So, now the theme is in place, fabric has arrived and it's time to make it happen! We purchased the crib and mattress, removed the twin beds from the room and got our glider (more to come about that awesome chair!), but we really haven't started bringing the nursery to life. So, this weekend we are really focusing on the nursery and I am excited to see the progress! With only 12 weeks to go, I guess it's about time we really focused on getting things ready. Cannot believe Baby B will be here in less than 90 days!
